Advice on Cleaning Internal Chaff Chamber & Exhaust Fan on MCR-3D
Hello all.
Looking for any insight on cleaning the internal chaff chamber on the roaster here...I see on the smaller units it can be removed directly from the top of the chaff collector but that is not an option here. Are folks using like an angled brush to clear the holes or a high-powered shopvac?
Additionally, I can't seem to get the vent chamber going from the hopper to the exhaust fan to move at all. I'd like to inspect the fan but can't get to it unless I disconnect that chamber....or should I go at it the back way?
Thanks everybody!
Hello!
To clean inside the chaff can without the removable top, you need to reach in from the top of the chaff can doors to scrape the side walls clean using metal bristle brushes or 2"- 3" steel putty knives. The Roaster Venting Cleaning Whip is also a useful and flexible tool to attach to a drill and whip out the chaff can from those doors.
The perforations inside the center column of your chaff can will need to be cleaned from the top down where your venting connects. Disassemble what you need and then use the Roaster Venting Cleaning Whip, bristle brushes, and your shop vac to get the job done.
The vent piece from your hopper to the exhaust fan can be removed by taking the screws out from where the right angle connect to the hopper base (1 or two screws) and then taking the screws out from the mount that connects to the exhaust fan (4 screws). See photos below.
Once you get those screws out, taking that section off should be straight forward. Now you can undo the cover for the exhaust fan to expose the fan impellers.
If you run into an issue make sure to reach out to the Mill City Roasters team at support@millcityroasters.com!
Thanks Bryant!
I wondered if the mount came with the vent in one piece but didn't want to mess with it before checking. Took apart my venting at end of last week and inspected; knew I'd have to go down from the top for the chaff collector and wanted to gauge some best practices.
Helpful as always!
