Fuel Pressure

I have a 1.5kg (LP Fuel) which is fairly new to me. I have been experimenting with the machine to get to know the far-end parameters of the air, fuel, and drum speed. Mainly to establish High/Med/Low settings in my mind, as I plan a profile.

I wanted to try high pre-heat and fast roast. I set the fuel pressure on my PID to 3.2 KPA, but in reality from the gauge reading on the machine and RoastPath tracking, it topped out at 2.7 KPA. I'm curious if there is a limiter on the valve, and is that setting adjustable? The 2.7 KPA got me to F/C by 9:00 with 1.3 kg, so I think 3.2 KPA would have been WAY too much heat. But I am considering that if I were to go up in batch size I might need more gas.

As I said I'm new to the machine, and I'm open to any advice or direction. My intention was not to always make fast roasts, it was just to find the boundaries of the machine's power.

2.7 KPA is equal to 11" water column standard LP delivery pressure.

No matter the set point, the system can only deliver the pressure on tap at the regulator.

No big. 2.7 KPA is your current high gas.

With that time to first crack you should be all set to bump up that batch size. If you have a coffee that tastes great with your 1.3kg batch, try 1.5kg next and try getting the same desired cup!

To do this, underlay your smaller profile batch and then roast with a larger batch size. Drive the roast with your bean temp parallell to the old profile (more coffee = more time in the roaster). This should get you to a similar taste in the cup or at the very least give you a starting point for a larger batch size.

Happy roasting!
