Gas shuts off?

Hi, I roasted two batches today and for each the gas shut off once I lowered my gas setting to 1.0 kPa. It ruined the roast both times because I couldn’t get the gas to come back on until after dropping the beans and then restarting at my charge temperature. One additional detail: the ignition button started blinking at that point too. Its almost like when you let your system idle at your charge temperature but I just don’t understand why it was doing that at 1kPa

To anyone reading, Buck contacted support and is going to perform a few maintenance options before reporting back.

@millcityroasters.

I did some of the cleaning maintenance suggested but didn't really see anything out of place.

But, I decided to run another batch after doing it and I noticed what was actually happening and it had nothing to do with the gas. I decided to slow walk my downward gas adjustments because I noticed that the roast was lagging behind my reference roast. Then, while I was still above 1.2kPa (I realized it was 1.2kPa and not 1kPa like I reported initially), the flame shut off and I realized what actually happened.

I charged at 400F on the roaster and for whatever reason, after I started my roast, the green "Temperature Control" reading dropped to 390F and so when the red temp reading got to 390, the flames cut and the ignition button started blinking. I decided to keep roasting so I bumped up the green temp setting to 400 and the flames immediately kicked back on...until the green temp reading got to 400 and the shut off happened again. I kept increasing the green temp setting but also lowered the gas below the 1.2kPa setting to rule out the gas pressure being the issue.

So, it would seem that somehow the system gets triggered now whenever a certain temp is reached. But, I don't understand why it is doing this now. Please help. I have orders coming in that I need to fulfill but cannot do so reliably.

Buck contacted support again for a walkthrough on the functionality of his roaster and learned about a few cool features of the MCR series that weren't being utilized well.

All in all, absolute home run of a conversation, we have the best customers.

During the pre-roast, we have our setpoint (drop) temperature, but once you charge the drum that setting changes to a max temp that is more of a safety control for the equipment

If you make an adjustment to that setpoint temp once you are in the roast, it is a hard limit for roasting - the gas will shut off once that temp is reached. So if it's 400F then yes, you'll be barely finishing 1C and your machine will cease sending fuel (a feature that you could certainly use to your benefit if you wanted to ensure no 2C development).

We have ours set to 460F which I believe is the max, which allows us to determine how far into 1C or 2C we want to let a roast go. It will only shut off the gas if it reaches that upper danger level where the beans will likely ignite.
