Need Help with RoR Fluctuations on Mill City 500 Roast

I’m using a Mill City 500 roaster, and I’m having an issue with the RoR (Rate of Rise) line. Specifically, I’m noticing a difference at the “flank” phase and also at the “crash.” If anyone has insights or advice on how to manage or interpret these, I’d really appreciate it!

In the first roast, you increased your airflow, maintained gas and increased the rate of convective heating. That led to a small jump in ROR. In the second roast, you maintained airflow and gas and saw a slight increase and flattened ROR.

Try dropping your gas to .5 kpa around 8:30 minutes, increase airflow around 9:00 and you'll smooth out your ROR a bit.

This will not have a big impact on cup quality, but it will help you understand how to control the roaster with more precision.
