Regular Maintenance Routine

Hi,

Does anyone have a regular maintenance plan they follow for their machine? I have a MCR 2D and apart from the chaff collector and the vents, I am not really sure what and how to maintain my machine. I posted previously about squeaking and I realized I need a grease gun which I will take care of this week. But I feel like there are other things I need to be doing more regularly that I am just not aware of.

Thanks,

We do a regular maintenance that includes disassembling the cooling tray and cleaning out everything there.

Disassembling your fans and cleaning those out at least annually (depending on your volume) is a great idea.

Grease gun - yes, and additionally you'll want to apply a spray type of chain oil on the rear chain of the drum (under the cover). There is also a grease port back there that you'll want to top off regularly once you get your gun setup.

I believe there is a reference in the Mill City paperwork or elsewhere on the website for some of the maintenance items. We are going through some facility and administrative changes in the coming months and one thing we will be doing is fully documenting the maintenance procedures for our equipment. I'll share them here in the community whenever they are completed.

That would be amazing to get what you document. I didn't find any of the materials I got with the roaster or what they have online to be helpful for this kind of thing. The cooling tray is especially of interest to me because I can see it quite clogged with bits.

@buckscoffee

I think I have a sheet at home that provides intervals and recommended maintenance on my 1kg. Ill put it on here later as well. As for the grease you use make sure you look at what MCR is selling as its rated for higher temps and is NSF. When I bought my used roaster, the previous grease used was not correct which created some issues to include premature front bearing wear. Theres a decent amount of youtube videos out. They don't necessarily need to be Mill City ones as the concept and design of drum roasters are similar.

@BucksCoffee

I added screen shots since it won't allow you to upload a PDF and I can't find the manual online anymore.
