ROR makes a W shape??

So I've been roasting on my MCR500 now for a few weeks and I constantly get a W shape at the top of my ROR curve. Sometimes it's before the peak ROR https://portal.roastpath.com/publicroasts/index/4181479485210260222 sometimes its after https://portal.roastpath.com/publicroasts/index/6054318203611050322 I'm just starting out, and I'm roasting in an uninsulated, unheated garage (in the dead of winter with temps below freezing) for the time being. I warm my machine up for 50-60 minutes, drop at 400 and set the gas at around 2.2-2.5 kpa to start. I've been doing a minute soak for all of my roasts. Is this a W shape at the top of my ROR curve a problem, or just is what it is?

Thanks,

Rob - Twin Span Coffee

Don't sweat it. That's just a backwards ROR calculation of the coffee off gassing water and CO2 with the effect that heat is repelled.

If people had their probes in the right place and smoothing turned off with an appropriate sample rate, they'd see this more often too.

Awesome! I was hoping you'd say something like that. Thanks Steve!

Welcome Rob. Where are you roasting it’s that cold? I am North Dakota and your dedication is awesome. I am also sick of winter

Hey Aj, I'm in New Jersey, and it was in the low 20s in the mornings for the past few months (luckily it's been a lot warmer now we're in Spring). I roast between 5 and 7 in the morning because my son is still sleeping and I can focus. Thanks for the compliment!
